ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure all aspects of hatchery operations comply with Live Production SOPs, duck-well-being guidelines, and biosecurity guidelines through monitoring production processes, incubation equipment, egg quality, and day-old quality, and taking appropriate action if required. Assist Hatchery Manager in staff management regarding training, scheduling, man-hours, safety, etc. Consult with Hatchery Manager on employee issues when necessary. Provide guidance and supervision to staff and monitor staff performance and development. Perform duties related to hiring, assigning, training, disciplining, and terminating hatchery employees with HR consultation. Effectively communicate with various departments and individuals within the company regarding egg/duck production, schedule attainment requirements, existing issues, etc. Collaborate with other supervisors and departments to ensure efficient and effective production processes. Responsible for data collection and generating reports accurately and on time. Ensure proper operation, inspection, cleaning, monitoring, and repair of all hatchery equipment. Perform minor maintenance as required. Respond to off-hour alarms and work weekends and holidays according to the rotation schedule. Perform related duties as required if trained or qualified to do. JOB SPECIFICATIONS The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in animal or Poultry Science or another related field or practical work experience equivalent is preferred. Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of hatchery production, support processes, equipment, established OAWs, and company policies and state and federal regulations. Supervisory or lead experience or ability to demonstrate leadership skills. Ability to manage and train individuals in the daily tasks performed in the hatchery, creating a comfortable working environment and motivating and disciplining staff when needed. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with others and interact with all levels of staff. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts as needed. Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to troubleshoot and analyze technical problems. Ability to organize, prioritize, and supervise multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Working knowledge of computer software including, but not limited to, MS Word, MS Excel, and E-mail. Experience with MTech and Minitab would be a plus. WORKING CLIMATE: This position involves standing, sitting, lifting, moving about the facility, and working with various machinery. The job requires exposure to fluctuating temperatures, both hot and cold, and wet environments, as well as chemicals and cleaning solutions.
