About The Position

Western Valley Meat is seeking a candidate with a strong working ethic and excellent attendance. At Western Valley Meat, we take pride in our positions with the company providing many avenues for growth and opportunity. The Harvest Trainer is responsible for training and overseeing new hires in both workstations and in classroom, along with assisting with the certification of current employees. Training and certifications are based on operational procedures and work instructions. Adheres to and enforces safety, food safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations. Trainer sets the example by having great attendance, performance and dedication.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of working experience in a Meat Processing facility preferred.
  • Must be fluent in both English and Spanish
  • Previous training background.
  • Required to work in the cooler for the duration of the shift.
  • Works entire shift while standing.
  • Ability to make repetitive motion movements using arms, hands and wrists for an entire shift.
  • Ability to stand the entire shift and use the hands, wrists and arms repetitively.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • The work environment is hot, wet and bloody.
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Demonstrate effective English reading and writing skills.
  • Demonstrate effective English oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Have prior experience in the use, care, and proper maintenance of knives and safety equipment.
  • Be familiar with various job positions in the specified area of assignment.
  • Demonstrate strong and effective presentation skills.
  • Poses a desire to learn and teach new skills to others.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (excel, power point, word, etc.)
  • Ability to work and interact well with Managers and Supervisors.
  • Ability to work with and instruct new hires on safety policies and job-specific skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and manage a schedule.
  • Work cooperatively with other trainers.
  • Assume responsibility for all materials and equipment used to conduct training.
  • Submit accurate data on forms and evaluations as required or requested.
  • Be non-judgmental and objective based when dealing with people and situations.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role with creative, patient, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Have a good attendance record with no more than 4 points accumulated within the past 12 months.
  • Have no safety violation on record.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of working experience in a Meat Processing facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support and mentoring for new hires while conducting evaluations and identifying areas of improvement.
  • Teaches new hires knife skills and best practices on performing the job correctly
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Supports quality and process reliability systems by testing current procedures and promote best practices
  • Evaluates operator’s performance to ensure compliance with operational and safety procedures
  • Assist supervisors with evaluating new hire and employee performance after completion of training.
  • Adheres to and enforces safety, food safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations
  • Trainers set an example by having great attendance, performance and dedication.
  • Other job duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager
