The Role Xylem is seeking a Hardware Test & Reliability Engineer to help ensure the performance, compliance, and long-term reliability of Sensus gas and water products. In this hands-on role, you’ll collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, quality, and manufacturing teams to bring high-quality products from development through launch.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–5 years of experience in hardware test, verification, or reliability engineering
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DAQs, power supplies, Hi-Pot, ESD)
  • Strong understanding of PCBA and product manufacturing processes
  • Proven troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with industry standards (ANSI, AWWA, MIL-STD, UL/CSA, IEC, ASTM, IEEE)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HALT/HASS, test automation, or programming (C#, Java, C++)
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, TestRail, or similar tools
  • Statistical/reliability tools (Minitab, JMP, Reliasoft)
  • Lean Six Sigma or DFSS experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute hardware test and reliability plans throughout the Xylem Product Development (XPD) process
  • Design and build test fixtures and systems for components, PCBAs, and full product assemblies
  • Perform environmental, electrical, and mechanical testing (temperature, humidity, vibration, shock, drop, HALT, EMI/EMC, salt fog, rain/dust)
  • Analyze test data, document defects, and generate reliability and performance reports
  • Support DFMEA activities and apply reliability and Six Sigma methods to improve product life
  • Act as the Voice of the Customer, feeding usage data and field insights back into design
  • Coordinate testing with external labs and support compliance to North American and global standards
