Hardware Technician - Electrical and Mechanical
About The Position
Aurelius Systems is a directed energy company developing edge-deployed laser systems for counter-unmanned aerial systems (cUAS)—we shoot down drones with laser guns. In an era where threats are increasingly small, numerous, and easily manufactured, our mission is to provide scalable, advanced, and cost-effective defense solutions for the US and our allies. Fresh from our initial funding round, we're building our team to launch our flagship product: the Archimedes laser sentinel. Role Overview We are seeking a Hardware Technician to rapidly build, modify, test, and iterate on physical hardware designs created by our R&D team. This role is deeply hands-on and execution-focused: turning drawings, schematics, and concepts into real, working hardware—fast. You will be a force multiplier for engineers by keeping prototypes moving and experiments unblocked.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on hardware technician, lab technician, or similar experience
- Strong practical skills with:
- Hand tools, power tools, torque tools
- Crimping, soldering, cable routing
- Mechanical assembly and alignment
- Ability to read and work from:
- Mechanical drawings
- Schematics and wiring diagrams
- Assembly instructions
- High mechanical intuition and attention to detail
- Comfort working in a fast-moving R&D environment where designs change frequently
Nice To Haves
- Experience with precision assemblies, optics, robotics, or aerospace hardware
- CNC, 3D printing, and machining experience
- Familiarity with embedded systems or electronics debugging
- Experience with significant “builder” hobbies - Electronics tinkering, smart home, automotive garage work, etc.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, wire, and integrate electromechanical systems and prototypes, building against design cycles for mostly bespoke designs
- Build and rework:
- Mechanical assemblies
- Wiring harnesses and cable assemblies
- Test rigs and fixtures
- Support rapid iteration cycles by:
- Modifying designs when problems arrive
- Proposing manufacturing and assembly methods
- Implementing engineering change requests
- Troubleshooting physical issues
- Operate and maintain lab equipment, tools, and prototyping infrastructure
- Assist engineers during bring-up, debugging, and testing
- Document builds, revisions, and lessons learned
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment
