Hardware Reliability Engineer

GoogleMountain View, CA

About The Position

As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in creating new consumer electronic products that meet a high bar for reliability and performance. You will work closely with the product management and design engineering teams to define standards, specify tests, and then supervise test execution and failure analysis. A broad engineering background and command of statistical methods will help to inform the design of new products. Your communication skills will be key to ensuring adoption of your technical recommendations. As a part of a engineering team at Google The Devices and Services Product Group (DSPG), you will push the boundaries of innovation in consumer electronics that change how users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a member of an extraordinarily creative, motivated and talented team, you will develop new products that are used by millions of people. You will be expected to be versatile and passionate to address new problems as we continue to push technology forward. If you are excited about building new things and aren't daunted by the challenge of building something from scratch, then our team might be your next career step.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience with reliability or quality engineering.
  • Experience in applying design for reliability techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with reliability modeling techniques such as Reliability Block Diagram, Weibull, and Accelerated Life Testing (ALT).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in reliability testing, fixture design, electrical/mechanical testing equipment, and new test development.
  • Experience in root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 8D, fishbone) and failure analysis processes, including familiarity with common techniques including microscopy, X-ray, FIB, and SEM.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design, tolerance and simulation tools like finite element analysis, with knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis including DOE, significance testing, sample sizes and confidence level using statistical tools such as JMP, Python.
  • Understanding of physics of failure and direct experience in developing reliability acceleration models.

Responsibilities

  • Convert product management reliability goals into appropriate testable targets.
  • Develop reliability performance metrics and lead management reviews to evaluate progress against those metrics.
  • Own reliability test planning, methodology and execution across all aspects of the product while working in Reliability test labs and collaborating with test engineers.
  • Drive the failure analysis process for all failures discovered during reliability testing and lead the failure analysis process with internal and external cross-functional teams for all failures discovered during reliability testing.
  • Travel domestically and internationally.
