Job Title: Hardware Product Engineer Reporting To: Management, Product Engineering Work Schedule: Onsite – Phoenix, AZ Moog’s Gilbert AZ facility is a leading designer of spaceflight hardware and is a part of the Spacecraft Avionics business unit in the Space & Defense Group. Moog has partnered with NASA to provide electronic solutions for the Artemis Orion Crew Capsule, Viper Lunar Rover, Satellite Laser Communications Relay, OSIRIS-REX to study asteroid composition along with complete satellite buses for the defense department. We are seeking an electrical engineer (EE) to be a product engineer in our Integrated Avionics Units (IAU) value steam. Job scope includes supporting electronic design/development; supporting component procurement; manufacturing, unit/environmental testing, and product requirement verification. The successful candidate will collaborate with electrical / mechanical / FPGA / software designers and other system engineers to produce design documentation and coordinate the manufacture and test of high-speed digital and power distribution circuit card assemblies and subsystems. The HW Product Engineer directly supports project lead engineer and program manager to ensure product development activities follow Moog’s phase-gate development process and that all product requirements are met, verified and thoroughly documented. This position reports to the Product Engineering Manager whose team is responsible for design and delivery of all Moog Space Avionics products within the Integrated Avionics Unit product line.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with demonstrated ability to read and understand printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) schematics, PCB layout drawings, and product/box assembly drawings.
  • Understanding of computer architecture and digital interface technologies.
  • Self-starting instincts and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong technical foundation while proactively identifying and resolving technical challenges.
  • Practical, demonstratable ability to utilize electronic laboratory equipment for signal measurements, component performance verification, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Good written/verbal communication skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to work onsite and be the technical POC during product testing campaigns.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in electronic systems design (e.g., PCBA design, schematic/layout, embedded microprocessor, FPGA, or ASIC) or electronic product engineering (e.g., circuit board manufacturing and test).
  • Experience verifying test and analysis requirements for complex electronics systems.
  • Experience working in cross-functional project teams that perform product design and development including prototyping and manufacturing phases.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to break down complex tasks and bring innovative solutions.
  • Experience designing or specifying space-based, radiation-hardened electronic components is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Taking directions from the lead project engineer, you will support the project design and development team to document, produce and test custom space electronics.
  • Verify and document product requirements through inspections, analysis, or test.
  • Following production hardware test completion, author/compile product verification reports to demonstrate specification compliance.
  • Author and/or review engineering analyses and reports; ensuring project data deliverables meet customer specs and are delivered on time.
  • Author and/or execute test procedures (unit, subsystem and product level hardware).
  • Use laboratory measurement equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot electronic failures down to the discrete component / integrated circuit level.
  • Resolve non-conformance issues encountered during manufacturing and testing activities including leading Failure Review Board (FRB) meetings and championing Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts.
  • Apply corrective actions to product designs by formulating solutions, selecting alternative components and authoring engineering change orders.
  • Maintain and update complex structured bill of material (BOM).
