Position Overview We are seeking a Materials Lab / Hardware Test Technician to join our Engineering Test team in Uniontown, PA. This role supports development, verification, and sustaining efforts for our portfolio of water metering products. This position will directly assist both the resident Materials Scientist and HW Reliability Test and product development teams on designs that meet internal, utility and industry requirements for cost effectiveness, metrology accuracy, performance, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in engineering (or related field) OR 4+ years of experience in product testing/evaluation (ex., Electronics, Mechanical, Chemistry, Materials Science, etc.)
  • Proficient experience with hand tools, power tools and plumbing hardware
  • Willingness to work in a test laboratory environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively both in person and through video conferencing platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) to document test results, aid with data organization/analysis, and prepare presentations of findings to internal teams
  • Self-starter with proven ability to plan, organize, and perform all facets and stages of test projects
  • Ability to work efficiently with cross-functional teams to meet project deadlines
  • Attention to detail, process adherence, high mechanical aptitude, and manual dexterity
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to convey technical concepts in business terms

Nice To Haves

  • Basic machine shop and fabrication skills a plus
  • Experience with electrical test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers, micrometers), as well as other laboratory instruments (e.g. Instron, salt fog, weatherometer)
  • Ability to develop testing methods, create test programs, and build fixture setups for specialized applications.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and industry standards, such as NSF, ANSI, ASTM, AWWA, UL, and Intrinsic Safety
  • Root cause analysis skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Execute manual and automated test runs for product and system verification
  • Log test data, analyze test results, and identify possible issues.
  • Document detailed findings and defects for engineering teams; maintain accurate records and reports of testing activities and results
  • Assist in developing methods, procedures, and equipment to improve test processes and reduce product failures
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to meet project goals and maintain high quality standards
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of laboratory test equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Perform mechanical and chemical tests and document results on a wide variety of thermoplastic/thermoset, cast and machined metals, glass, drawn sheet metal, adhesives, and rubber compounds
  • Assist with all aspects of materials lab work, including but not limited to materials evaluation and identification (DSC, FTIR, metallographic analysis, chemical compatibility, etc.), mechanical testing (tensile testing, lap shear, torsion, bending, compressive strength, impact, etc.)
  • Strong desire and proven ability to quickly learn new tools, processes, and the operation of test equipment, with a focus on identifying opportunities to improve and optimize existing processes
  • Assist Engineering and Quality by investigating and analyzing defective products returned from customers
