About The Position

Cisco Hardware Engineers develop and work with Next Generation Technology to build Cisco Hardware products keeping in mind the user experience and in accordance with IEEE standards, and industry best practices. Hardware Engineers serve a range of roles at Cisco from IP Creators and architects creating industry standards, to Solution Integrators driving cross-functional teams to go from concept to production, as well as providing expertise in Solution Verification and ensuring that our products meet Cisco and Industry quality standards. They drive innovation across the large CISCO portfolio, including but not limited to System/Board Design, Circuit Board Layout, Hardware Automation, Validation and Test, Signal Integrity and Power Design. They work cross functionally with system designers, diagnostics engineers, customer escalation engineers, & external vendors to ensure robust test methodology & timely issue mitigation resulting in high product quality and enable next generation solutions. They drive innovation across Cisco's hardware portfolio and enables next generation solutions through IP development, research, and challenging the status quo within the industry (finding ways to optimize cost, performance, and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelors + 12 years of related experience, or Masters + 8 years of related experience, or PhD + 5 years of related experience

  • Recognized as an expert within Cisco. Proactively identifies and participates in the resolution of complex problems that impact the direction of the business.

  • Contributes to the development of annual organizational objectives/priorities.

  • Builds and maintains long-term relationships with key stakeholders to ensure products and services reflect the needs and direction of the business.
  • Leads and executes projects that span across several business segments, functions or regions.
  • Drives innovation on large features from technical design through completion and mentor others.
  • Owns the Hardware Engineering strategy within Cisco and the Industry.
  • Champions the innovation, design of new hardware devices and systems, defines the architecture and specifications, guidelines and standards for very complex hardware products.
  • Influences the technical direction and deliverables across the function, by leading design choices within the context of all Cisco offerings.
  • Serves as Technical expert on testing, verification, and issue resolution approach and coordinates with appropriate stakeholders to integrate changes into hardware design lifecycle.
  • Resolves highly complex configuration and installation issues across multiple systems ensuring that issues are being addressed in a systemic manner.
  • Leads, mentors, and influences senior engineers.
  • Improves knowledge sharing processes.

  • Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
  • For non-sales roles, employees are also eligible to earn annual bonuses subject to Cisco’s policies.
