About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As a part of small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the build process, quality, and execution of avionics assembly manufacturing for New Glenn. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of avionics build, test, operation, and vehicle integration. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in design, manufacturing and integration of electronic hardware in a complex and rapidly-changing NPI manufacturing environment across the full product life cycle.
  • Ability to travel domestically to vendor sites up to 20% of the time.
  • Solid understanding of printed circuit board assembly, electronic enclosure and wire harness development, manufacture and quality control consistent with IPC or similar standards.
  • Self-motivated and independent, yet collaborative, individual contributor with strong interpersonal team skills; organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in design, manufacturing and integration of electronic hardware in a complex and rapidly-changing NPI manufacturing environment across the full product life cycle.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with manufacturing related software tools including MS Office, 3D CAD (Creo and Windchill; OrCAD or Altium), scheduling, issue tracking, ERP dBase, statistical analysis, etc.
  • Experience designing tooling and automation for electronics assembly and testing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with program and senior management to drive vendor selection, audits, reviews, and corrective and preventive action.

Responsibilities

  • Drive manufacturing compliance with our internal and external suppliers, adhering to Blue Origin avionics product development and configuration management guidelines.
  • Drive Design for 'X' (DFX: manufacturing, assembly, cost, quality, etc) principles, processes and features across avionics hardware designs.
  • Develop and release avionics manufacturing documentation including: Internal assembly, integration and installation work order instructions Product BOM, configuration, EEE parts compliance and pedigree reports First Article Inspection reports and vendor mfg process capability reports - Vendor design and manufacturing/procurement drawings DFMEA/PFMEA (Design/Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) reports Approvals of supplier EIDPs (End Item Data Package)
  • Drive manufacturing non-conformances and escapes root cause investigations and analyses, corrective action (including repair and rework), and preventive action for production assemblies.
  • Support design reviews and serve as liaison and approval authority between our avionics design team, manufacturing and operations; serve as a subject matter expert in design for manufacturability, yield improvements, supplier capabilities assessments, quality control, etc.
