About The Position

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers, on a mission to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer. We are looking to hire a Hardware Development Engineer with microfabrication experience in a cleanroom environment. The candidate should have process integration experience in the areas of superconducting devices, MEMS and or semiconductor solid state devices fabricated using thin film deposition, wet and dry etch processes, wet or vapor release, CMP with special focus on direct write and masked based photolithography. The candidate will work on developing and improving processes needed for superconducting circuit fabrication. The position is on-site at our lab, located on the in Pasadena, CA. The ideal candidate will have had prior experience in superconducting, MEMS and or semiconductor device fabrication. We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles, resourcefulness and data science experience. Organization and communication skills are essential. The role may call for working on second shift.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience in using maskless direct laser writing photolithography, spin coating tracks, thin film deposition, wet and dry etch and other nanofabrication processes

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with written and verbal communication and presentation
  • MS or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Working knowledge of CAD software with the ability to create scripts using programming languages such as Python

Responsibilities

  • Develop lithography processes for superconducting qubits using direct-write maskless and conventional masked based lithography.
  • Leverage process integration skills based on experience in device fabrication of superconducting qubits, MEMS and or semiconductor solid state devices.
  • Work closely with the photolithography team to develop new processes for superconducting qubits. Improve and sustain existing processes, implementing proper controls.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, scientists and engineer leading complex projects.
  • Analyze and interpret complex scientific data, providing critical insights and recommendations based on experiments devised to improve superconducting device room temperature and cryogenic performance.
  • Mentor and train other staff members in lithography, etch, thin films deposition and other fabrication techniques.
  • Working with various external vendors and internal hardware equipment engineers to resolve tool issues.

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
  • paid time off
  • parental leave
