Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least five years of direct hardware design experience.
  • Proven competency developing complex electromechanical systems, packaging, fixtures, and tooling.
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience with metal machining and Sheetmetal fabrication; familiarity with other alternative fabrication techniques such as casting and additive manufacturing and design experience with ceramics are pluses.
  • Strong understanding of various material properties and their coatings and finishes.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T and drafting best practices; experience with model-based-definition design (MBD) and model-based-enterprise (MBE) is a plus.
  • Expert-level CAD user; competency with Siemens NX, experience with CAD user groups, and participation in defining CAD best known practices are pluses.
  • Keen understanding of and experience with large assembly management methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; uncompromising attention to detail.
  • Prior people supervision experience is a big plus.

  • Knowledge on industrial control panel design.
  • Prior experience in the semiconductor equipment industry.

  • Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of mechanical components and the release of engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOM) using Engineering Change Management to support manufacturing.
  • Create 3D electrical and pneumatic harness routing using CAD packages.
  • Develop multi-CAD layouts for Lam products and manage large 3D assemblies.
  • Highly skilled in 3D CAD modeling tools such as Siemens NX, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and others.
  • Originate and design mechanical parts and subassemblies and create layouts to support product design and technology development.
  • Work on continuous improvement projects to enhance performance while reducing cost.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams with product engineering, program management, manufacturing, field service, and supply chain to define specifications and complete the full design cycle.
  • Create production drawings, develop precise CAD assemblies, and conduct design reviews in support of design efforts.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks with responsibilities of instituting and participating in corrective actions and following through to assure proper release and handoff of solutions to Technical Services and Field Service organizations.
  • Actively participate in project team activities to help the team accelerate design-to-release duration while providing field data or considerations to all mechanical design or project activities.
  • Proficiency in concept design and development for mechanical components or subsystems.
  • Knowledge of creating drawings for sheet metal and machined parts.
  • Assist senior engineers in the analysis of research data and product specifications.
  • Experience with metal machining and sheet metal fabrication and casting processes.
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering, engineering/design methods and processes, and engineering drawings.
  • Solid knowledge of welding symbols, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) symbols, surface finishes, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) drafting standards.
  • Provide support to a variety of projects with supervision as required.
  • Acquire and apply basic engineering theories, methods, and research techniques in the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical problems.
  • Conduct and may design, well-defined experiments and tests pertaining to the development of new methods, processes, hardware, standards, modifications of current material components or process specifications and the resolution of complex technical problems.
  • Collect data, analyze results, generate reports, and provide recommendations.
  • Contribute as required in the design, analysis, prototype builds, software or process development, evaluation, and complete bottom-up product documentation for pre-production release.
