About The Position

Emerson's Process Systems and Solutions business develops automation systems to streamline manufacturing processes. We are looking for students who are interested in gaining real-world experience in a dynamic, collaborative environment at our Austin, TX location. Based out of our Round Rock, TX office, as a Hardware Design Intern, you will be involved in designing ARM and FPGA-based embedded products for the process automation industry. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in hardware design and contribute to impactful projects.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools
• Knowledge of fundamental electronic components and their characteristics
• Legal authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be provided for this position

Nice To Haves

• Junior or Senior
• Completed courses in: Digital Logic Design, Circuit Theory, Electro-magnetic Theory, Embedded Systems
• Exposure to: Hardware Description Languages such as VHDL or Verilog, Signal integrity and EMI/EMC considerations, Embedded systems and microcontroller design, Simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, ModelSim)
• Previous internship experience in a professional environment
• Strategic mindset and self-motivated
• Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills
• Innovative approach to solve problems

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of ARM and FPGA-based embedded hardware solutions
• Participate in schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit design
• Support the prototyping, testing, and validation of hardware designs
• Debug and troubleshoot hardware issues to ensure optimal performance
• Document design processes, test procedures, and results
• Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback
