About The Position

Professional handymen are general fix-it specialists who use problem-solving and technical skills to solve household maintenance problems. Handymen complete tasks that are not complex enough to require certified professionals, such as electricians, while not simple enough to do without relevant technical knowledge. Handymen may need to call on certified trade professionals when work becomes overtly complex.

Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent GED and a good command of the English language (i.e. read, write and understand instructions in English).
• Three to six months of on-the-job experience is required in order to become familiar with electrical, plumbing and glazing work and to perform preventive maintenance on boilers, burners and air conditioning systems.

Responsibilities

• Handymen may be required to perform many different tasks associated with a client's request.
• Often the handyman meets with the client and learns what needs to be done.
• A handyman then discusses the way in which he or she will approach the project.
• A handyman may then provide the client with an approximation of the costs associated with the proposed project plan.
