The Handwork Lead serves as the first line of leadership for bindery production line workers, coordinating daily assignments and ensuring jobs are completed accurately and efficiently. This role oversees handwork operations, supports production workflow, and helps train and guide temporary staff and handworkers. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable leading teams in a fast-paced print manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years in printing, bindery, or production operations.
  • Knowledge of bindery operations, job bags, and the printing process.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily job assignments and placement of handworkers to support production schedules.
  • Provide training and instructions for handworkers on specific product runs and bindery tasks.
  • Oversee the daily activities of up to 40 staff members ensuring productivity and quality standards are met.
  • Verify job components against job bags to ensure the correct materials and instructions are being followed.
  • Perform bindery operations by hand including collating, inserting, folding, gluing, stapling, stamping, fastening, sealing, padding, and preparing mailings.
  • Inspect printed materials to identify printing or finishing defects and ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Communicate production needs and workflow updates with supervisors and team members.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
