About The Position

The Handcrew Firefighter position is a seasonal role focused on assisting in wildland fire management activities in the Black Hills area of South Dakota. The primary responsibilities include suppressing wildland fires, participating in pre-suppression activities, and engaging in fire training and prescribed burning projects. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as well as the potential for out-of-state assignments.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old by the date of hire.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and operate 4x4 vehicles.
• Knowledge of wildfire suppression tactics and hazardous fuels reduction techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Required to pass the arduous work capacity test (pack test).

Nice To Haves

• NWCG training - S130/S190/L180, IS100, and IS700 preferred.
• EMT or CDL certification for additional pay.

Responsibilities
