About The Position

With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service. Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Hand Layup Technician. Our team’s motto is: Build Quality Parts On Time. A Hand Layup Technician is at the heart of manufacturing and fabricates parts by precisely cutting, placing, and molding composite materials. Our team ensures proper ply orientation, ply consolidation, and that quality standards are met while reading technical drawings and using hand tools. Additionally, proficiency in performing vacuum bagging and knowledge of curing operations are necessary for this role. Joby Aviation is dedicated to training and developing individuals with potential, and we are looking for apprentices who are eager to learn and grow within our company . Shift Schedules below: 1 st shift - Monday – Thursday: 7AM- 5:30PM 2 nd shift- Monday - Thursday: 5:30PM - 4:00AM 3 rd shift -Friday - Sunday: 6AM - 6:30PM

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience working in fast-paced, time sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated abilities following standardized work instructions, technical requirements, and executing standard processes.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
  • Continuous standing, squatting, bending, pulling, twisting, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Lifting of 50 lbs. or less
  • Must wear PPE when .
  • Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials and able to become certified to wear a respirator.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
  • Ability to become forklift, crane, or equipment certified

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of manufacturing experience or applicable wet-lamination experience
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tooling prep operations in preparation for lamination .
  • Prepare and organize composite materials in preparation for l amination .
  • Apply composite materials onto molds or tooling surfaces using techniques like hand layup or automated processes.
  • Ensure proper ply orientation, ply thickness, and material consolidation is achieve d.
  • Proficiency in vacuum bagging techniques for composite layup operations .
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Basic use of computer s for documentation and record-keeping purposes .
