About The Position

The Hamilton County Fellowship Program, the County’s premier paid internship program, is designed for graduate and undergraduate students seeking a career in public service. This concentrated program exposes participants to the many facets of County government that directly impact those who live, work and play in Hamilton County. The fellowship features a core curriculum with project-based initiatives that will enhance networking, career exploration, and professional development. Fellows will be exposed to experiences that support Hamilton County’s vision to serve the residents of Hamilton County by providing the best and most responsive county government in America, as well as Hamilton County's mission to provide efficient service of the highest quality, and to deliver county services equitably. Fellows will work under the direction of senior administrators and managers and gain exposure to important management practices and strategies. The culture at Hamilton County is built on our shared core values- care, commit and enhance our community. Fellows will spend four to six weeks with each of the following core areas: Board of County Commissioners –Fellowship initiatives include gathering information, data, and statistics to help commission offices keep a pulse on the community and the people we serve. Administration and Media/Communications - Fellows will work alongside of the County’s top administrative team and assist in the execution of core duties, operations and special projects while contributing fresh ideas and creative solutions. Fina ncial Management - Fellows will focus on programs building a foundation in budget administration, financial forecasting, grant management, economic equity and purchasing programs. Human Resources - Fellows will partner on initiatives associated with making Hamilton County an Employer of Choice: focus on the areas of HR Policy, Employee Relations, Compensation, Benefits, HRIS, and Employee Development. Fellows can choose four optional areas of concentration for six week rotations. Requirements

  • Actively enrolled undergraduate juniors or seniors (Completion of 60 Credit Hours) or graduate students
  • Professional and Ethical: Demonstrates a strong work ethic. Displays a commitment to a career public service.
  • Communicator: Provides quality customer service. Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills. Works well in a team.
  • Innovator: Takes initiative. Creates and implements ideas. Demonstrates strong analytical skills.

  • 20 Hours per week
  • 6-month or 12- month assignment. OR 3-month Full Time program
