About The Position

At Hands of Heartland, we believe that people with developmental disabilities are people first. We are looking for compassionate and caring individuals to join our team as a Habilitation Specialist to provide care to the individuals we support at the Laura Dester Children’s Center (LDCC). The LDCC is an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) that serves 25 clients who do not require physical assistance with mobility or feeding. Most direct support work focuses on habilitation and behavioral management. You will work with children and adolescents who have developmental disabilities as well as behavioral support needs and mental illness. The level of support may vary depending on the needs of the individual. Must be 21 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED, and a valid Drivers License. Must be able to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in providing care to individuals with developmental disabilities or similar populations preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and support to children and adolescents
  • Assist with activities of daily living
  • Implement individualized care plans and follow specific protocols
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and promoting independence
  • Teach life skills, social skills, and daily living routines.
  • Implementing behavior plans, de-escalation, data collection, emotional regulation support.
  • Assist with medication administration and documentation as required
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for individuals
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals

Benefits

  • Starting pay of $19.10 per hour
  • Pay increase to $20.42 after 6 months of employment
  • Shift differential of $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 6pm and 6am
  • Sign on bonus paid over 6 months
