About The Position

The Houseman position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining public guestroom areas, including hallways and general janitorial work for the Hotel Housekeeping Department. The role requires the ability to explain and demonstrate hospitality behaviors and performance standards, as well as technical skills necessary to complete tasks to standard. The Houseman must take ownership of problems, provide guests with directions or information, and act upon complaints in a prompt and professional manner. The position emphasizes the importance of teamwork, communication, and maintaining a positive attitude in all situations.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write to an 8th grade level
• Six months to one year job-related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Bicultural experience preferred
• Must be able to stand for several hours
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a hotel or hospitality environment
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment

Responsibilities

• Sweep and mop entry floors
• Clean entry glass doors
• Dust and clean baseboards, ceiling and floor vents
• Clean ash urns, take out cigarette butts and trash
• Empty and clean trash cans inside and out
• Vacuum stairs and hallway carpets and dust and clean stairway rails
• Clean hall doors and windows, wipe window sills
• Check hallways for marks and smudges and clean any marks and smudges
• Clean and dust hallway furniture
• Clean and vacuum guestroom area elevators, clean threshold and tracks of elevators
• Mop and wipe soft drinks and ice cream machine rooms
• Check and empty Housekeepers' vacuum cleaners
• Retrieve dirty linen and trash from Housekeepers' carts
• Keep Housemen's supply closets neat, cleaned, and stocked
• Replace dirty or wet floor mats
• Get supplies from purchasing, move heavy furniture for Housekeepers, strip rooms on heavy check-out days as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
