About The Position

Central Market is a specialty grocery that originated in Austin, Texas in 1994, and has since expanded to multiple locations across the state. As an H-E-B Store Department Lead, you will be responsible for managing a well-stocked and maintained department, ensuring superior customer service. This role also encompasses supervisory duties such as scheduling, training, and developing Partners.

Requirements

  • 6+ months of related experience and / or training, or combination of equivalent education / training
  • Expert knowledge of department production stations, including quality standards, set-up, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of all equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (e.g., safety rules, operating / maintenance instructions, production planners, procedure manuals)
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or Partners
  • Ability to apply common sense / understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Associate’s Degree (AA), or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or 6+ months of related experience and / or training, or combination of equivalent education / training
  • Completion of Company Orientation
  • Food safety and sanitation training
  • eCommerce Online Ordering training
  • Ability to complete Texas Nursery & Landscape Association training H-E-B internal training (for Texas Backyard department)

Responsibilities

  • May serve as backup to Department Manager and typically works opposite shift to Manager
  • May help prepare department work schedules
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws
  • Assists with inventory control; loads, unloads, and moves product
  • Trains Partners; directs work; addresses complaints; resolves issues; builds / follows up on production plans and their execution
  • Assists in all technical areas, as needed
  • Performs Representative / Specialist duties frequently
  • Provides / coaches on superior customer service
  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • Answers customer questions regarding products; assists them with selections
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques and advanced product knowledge and experience to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • Merchandises products effectively
  • Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • Complies with department / Store operating procedures
  • Cleans / sanitizes sales floor, display cases, prep areas, and equipment
  • Ensures / oversees effective production planning and execution of supporting processes (Bakery)
  • Assists in all technical areas as needed (e.g., baking, frying, and decorating) (Bakery)
  • Culls bakery products for poor quality, expiration dates (Bakery)
  • Writes on cakes with icing per personalized customer requests (Bakery)
  • Serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners, processes, and responsibilities in either cake / tortilla production or scratch / baking / wrapping as applicable by Store (for stores with more than one Bakery Lead)
  • Applies advanced knowledge of current trends in beauty for hair care, skin care, and makeup (Beauty)
  • May oversee a specific area of the business: Service Case, Production, Cheese Shop or Catering (Deli)
  • Assists with inventory control, including planning portion of Fresh Production Planner (FPP); follows up on FPP inventory functions; ensures Perpetual Adjustment Walk (PAW) walks are complete (Deli)
  • Assists with ordering and event order management (EOMs) (Deli)
  • Assists with training on new systems, tools, processes, and product roll-outs; follows up with Partners as needed to reinforce or retrain (Deli)
  • Serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners, processes, and responsibilities in either back of the house or front of the house Deli operations as applicable by Store (for stores with more than one Deli Lead)
  • Serves / packages products at customer's request (Prepared Foods)
  • Educates customers on preparation / reheating instructions of prepared foods (Prepared Foods)
  • Prepackages condiments (sauces, dressings) for prepared food items (Prepared Foods)
  • Cuts, slices, dices, chops, food in preparation for chef (Prepared Foods)
  • Performs lead responsibilities for the department and may serve as backup to Produce Manager (Produce Lead - department)
  • Serves as dedicated lead over the in-store production work & Production Partners (Produce Lead - in-store production)
  • Spends majority of time with processing team engaged in Daily Sequence of Tasks (Produce Lead - in-store production)
  • Strong knowledge of nursery field (Texas Backyard)
  • Strong knowledge of plant and chemical recommendations (Texas Backyard)
  • Ability to complete Texas Nursery & Landscape Association training (H-E-B internal training) (Texas Backyard)
  • Keeps up with current nursery field-related trends (Texas Backyard)
