About The Position

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Gymnastics Lead to join our team! The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As the Gymnastics Lead, you will provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation, teaching gymnastics skills and progression while supporting the Gymnastics Coach. Position Summary Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation, teaching gymnastics skills and progression. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Requirements

  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Six months or more of experience teaching gymnastics and/or personal gymnastics experience preferred.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with children of all ages and diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and skills in program activities and related gymnastics and office equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age appropriate techniques.
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day and other online or in-person training as required.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • One year or more of related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to instruct youth classes in sports, games, and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and skills to instruct gymnastics.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.
  • Preferred: Experience in teaching gymnastics and/or years of personal gymnastics experience.
  • Preferred: Knowledge and skills to instruct boys and girls gymnastics.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain class schedules, rosters, report cards and rotation schedules.
  • Assist and support leading the gymnastics programs.
  • Assist in recruiting and leading volunteers to assist with programming support
  • Keep children moving - eliminate lots of turn-taking, standing or sitting for long periods
  • Enforce all safety rules and regulations in the gym
  • Incorporate the YMCA values and mission statement
  • Prepare lesson plans with a natural progression appropriate to the age and ability of the gymnast.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the activity program.
  • Outline class lesson plans to keep children moving, eliminate of lot of turn taking and standing or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Track daily class attendance.
  • Return phone calls and emails and track appropriately.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
  • Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.
  • Staff are expected to adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of PPE.
  • Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
