About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The responsibility of the Gymnastics Coach is to provide the highest level of teaching and coaching to all participants of the gymnastics program, boys and girls ages 2 - 18. The Gymnastics Coach is responsible for enforcing the operation rules and regulations with all members in accordance with the policies of the Department and Branch. As employees of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA, Gymnastics Coaches are responsible for completing the Sexual Harassment/ New Staff Orientation within 60 days of employment. Additionally, Gymnastics Coaches are responsible for providing coaching and guidance to participants in accordance with YUSA and USAG safety recommendations and skill level guidelines.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of USAG standards and level requirements required.
  • Current USAG safety certifications required
  • CPR/AED Certification required
  • HIPAA Compliance Training
  • Coaches must have sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential coaching functions, including but not limited to spotting and moving equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to demonstrate basic gymnastics skills is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled class.
  • Turn cell phone off or to vibrate – they are not allowed on the gym floor.
  • Go over lesson plans as provided by the Gymnastics Director. Follow the daily lesson plan and ensure that things are running safely and smoothly and that gymnasts are on-task and keeping busy until they are asked to switch stations.
  • Plans and instructs specialty classes following YMCA standards and guidelines or other nationally recognized certifications.
  • Help arrange the gym by setting up or breaking down equipment needed for daily activities. Report any equipment issues to the Gymnastics Director.
  • Take attendance in every class and practice.
  • Assist gymnasts with stretching by walking around and physically helping them.
  • Coaches must remain actively engaged with the gymnasts. NO sitting or talking with other coaches during class/practice. No cell phone use.
  • Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. Maintains current certifications relative to specialty area.
  • Observes and discusses individual progress of participants with Assistant Gymnastics Director and parents. Develops rapport with class participants/team members and responds to related questions.
  • Ensures safe and effective classes. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents immediately to parents and Gymnastics Director.
  • Establish and implement ongoing communication with families.
  • Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates participants to commit to long-term participation.
  • Be a positive role model for the youth in class and represent the Riverbrook Regional YMCA in a positive manner.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures related to boundaries with youth, managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Completes all required organizational trainings annually.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all case of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and Volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization.
  • An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.
  • This organization has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement.
  • Job responsibilities include access to protected health information. The employee may access protected health information (PHI) only to the extent that it is necessary for job requirements. May only share PHI with those who have a need-to-know specific member/participant/employee information in order to complete job responsibilities related to the individual’s participation, payment, or company operations. Is expected to complete required HIPAA privacy training and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • The Gymnastics Coach has access to protected health information (PHI) of Y program participants. The Gymnastics Coach may use and disclose PHI to workforce members for the purpose of treatment, payment, and operations only.
  • Actively participates in and upholds the YMCA’s mission to be open and accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation or special need. Contributes time to raise funds for this worthy and necessary endeavor by supporting the Y’s Annual Giving and Capital Development campaigns.
