About The Position

First Ascent Climbing & Fitness is on a mission to share our love of climbing with everyone, connect people through movement, and create welcoming, uplifting spaces that strengthen minds, bodies, and communities. We are looking for a proactive, positive, growth-oriented leader to serve as Gym Manager, helping us continually get better at what we do as we discover how to best serve our members and guests. ROLE SUMMARY As a Gym Manager, you are ultimately responsible for the results of your location, including financial health, reviews and feedback, and overall impact on the community within the gym. We will look to you to ensure consistent delivery of a fantastic experience for members and guests, set a positive, productive tone for leaders and staff at your location, communicate clearly and proactively with your team, seek out opportunities to improve staff, member and guest experience, work collaboratively with other FA leaders—and have a blast along the way.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience, preferably in the fitness, recreation or hospitality industries
  • Exceptional communication skills; solid computer skills
  • Enthusiasm for climbing, fitness, and community-building
  • Friendly demeanor; positive attitude; flexible working style; creative problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of climbing equipment and proper belay technique preferred
  • Upstanding reputation in the local climbing community

Responsibilities

  • Bring the First Ascent mission and values to life at your gym.
  • Monitor KPIs for your gym and take action to ensure KPI goals are met by all teams
  • Strengthen the financial health of your location by driving growth and managing expenses to budgets.
  • Oversee, coach and support the Hospitality Manager, Program Manager and Head Routesetter at your location, holding regular 1:1 meetings and reviews with each leader.
  • Review and approve payroll in a timely manner to ensure accurate, prompt pay for staff.
  • Become an expert on pricing, programs, policies, and climbing equipment, so you can serve as the source to answer questions for your team.
  • Resolve facilities issues in a timely manner, working with the Facilities Manager and vendors.
  • Communicate regularly on multiple channels with your team about programs, events, policy updates, gym-wide initiatives, etc.
  • Champion facility improvement projects for your location to continue adding value for your members and guests
  • Plan and implement events, meetups, and programs that add to the life of your gym and keep members engaged.
  • Serve as the final authority for member/guest complaints, staff concerns, and other issues that arise at your location.
  • Uphold high standards for facility cleanliness
  • Collaborate with other Gym Managers, the Operations Manager, the Marketing & Communications Director, and other leaders to solve problems, boost gym performance, and build community at your location.
