About The Position

The instructor will focus primarily on guitar / fret instruction. If the instructor is interested in giving voice and/or piano lessons, as well, a small student base can be provided in those areas. The instructor will work with children ages 6 to young adults. Nearly all lessons are in-person at the UpBeat studio on North Elston Avenue, with virtual lessons offered in special circumstances. Overall duties include: - teach 30-minute individual guitar lessons - teach in group settings when needed - teach theory, technique, performance, and composition - utilize exercises and games to help motivate students to learn - conduct ongoing assessments of student achievements through formal and informal testing - plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies - assist in creating, organizing, and managing games, recreation, and team-building exercises - help to coordinate and support program activities - contribute towards organizing activities, curriculum design, and student / parent feedback - help to apply and enforce student discipline when necessary This is an exciting opportunity for a talented musician to make a difference in the lives of youth through music and the arts. No teaching experience is required; full training will be provided.

Requirements

  • formal music education and/or training
  • proficiency in guitar / fret performance
  • strong understanding of music theory
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • a passion for working with youth
  • we are unable to consider self-taught musicians at this time

Nice To Haves

  • previous experience in music education, summer camps, or similar settings preferred
