Northrop Grumman is seeking Guidance Navigation and Control Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Space sector in Redondo Beach, CA. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Guidance Navigation and Control team within the Western Region Vehicle and Software Engineering Directorate.

Requirements

  • A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria.
  • The candidate must:
  • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2026
  • Be majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or STEM degree
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2026.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Nice To Haves

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher
  • Previous internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).
  • Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment.
  • Experience in MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Python

Responsibilities

  • Derives guidance, navigation, and control system requirements from customer and mission needs.
  • Collaborates across functional teams to perform trade studies supporting selected approaches.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in the selection of hardware (sensors, actuators, processors) and development of algorithms (trackers, filters, controllers) to fulfill GNC requirements.
  • Creates models and simulations of system attitude, ephemeris, and line-of-sight dynamics, knowledge, and control to support analysis, verification, and flight operations.
  • Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of spacecraft during earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events.
  • Engineers navigation functions including the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality.
  • Builds guidance functions including the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space.
  • Implements control design and analysis processes consisting of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for spacecraft.
