About The Position

The Guidance Counselor position at Staffing Solutions Organization (SSO) involves supporting the social and emotional needs of students, staff, and families in New York nonpublic schools. The role focuses on providing direct services to students, as well as consultation, training, and coaching for school staff and families. Counselors will work to ensure equal access to core curriculum by addressing mental and behavioral health needs and improving the overall school climate. This position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in school counseling or related field required.
  • Licensed or certified New York State School Counselor.
  • Experience working with children who are 'at-risk' or have emotional/social/behavioral needs is required.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based programs aligned with the CASEL Framework.
  • Ability to design and deliver professional development and coach adult learners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in school counseling, school social work, or related field is preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge or training in interventions and instructional strategies for student growth and social emotional wellness is preferred.
  • Experience in training and coaching of staff is preferred.
  • Experience in Social Emotional Learning, Mental and Behavioral Health interventions, and/or Trauma Informed Practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school staff including social workers, counselors, and other mental health staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between school buildings, families, and the community to assure positive outcomes for all learners.
  • Support school-level curriculum and social, emotional, and mental health goals to improve student outcomes.
  • Promote inclusivity and equity for all students through professional development in integrated SEL instruction and behavior interventions.
  • Provide consultation, training, coaching, and support to staff, parents, and administrators on best practices in social and emotional learning.
  • Conduct site-based needs assessments and design programs and interventions in collaboration with school leadership.
  • Work directly with students through SEL and mental health groups or individual sessions to teach foundational skills.
  • Design, develop, and implement school- and community-based programs aligned with the CASEL Framework.
  • Provide integrated supports during instructional time and develop mentoring strategies.
  • Consult, model, and provide professional development for school staff to support integrated social emotional curriculum.
  • Conduct parent and family sessions to guide on supporting students' social and emotional needs at home.
  • Keep detailed records and collect data to monitor program implementation and student progress.
  • Provide counseling in areas such as substance use, family relationships, and peer relationships.
  • Assist with support for students and staff dealing with the impacts of COVID-19, including suicide prevention and risk assessment.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing communication with families to foster partnerships and promote engagement.

  • Competitive hourly pay ranging from $40 to $60 depending on experience and location.
