About The Position

The School Counselor at Winchester Public Schools plays a vital role in fostering the wellbeing and development of students by creating an inclusive environment that emphasizes trust, respect, and belonging. This position focuses on enhancing students' social, emotional, and academic skills, as well as supporting their mental health and postgraduate planning through various counseling methods and collaborative efforts with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in school counseling, social work, mental health counseling, psychology, or a related field.
  • DESE Licensure: School Counselor 5-12 or School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor.
  • Ability to use evidence-based practices to develop students' social and emotional skills and mental health wellness.
  • Familiarity with postgraduate planning.
  • Understand Section 504 federal law.
  • Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues.
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with numerous stakeholders.
  • Excellent social and emotional skills.
  • Ability to use student information management systems and technology effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing 504 plans/facilitating the 504 process.
  • LICSW or LMHC.
  • Well-developed clinical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with the development of their social, emotional, and academic skills, mental health wellness, and postgraduate planning needs.
  • Provide individual and group counseling support and group learning opportunities to students.
  • Consult with and collaborate with counseling colleagues, teachers, administrators, families, and related-service providers to meet students' needs.
  • Coordinate and oversee the 504 process for students on your caseload and collaborate with the special education department around the initial and re-evaluation process.
  • Maintain student information systems for students on your caseload.
  • Collect, maintain, and present data when applicable.
  • Develop letters of recommendation for students on your caseload.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Provide resources and learning opportunities to families and guardians to support student learning, wellness, and postgraduate preparation.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current with school counseling and evidence-based practices.
  • Utilize relevant information and professional judgment in determining whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Responsible for implementing other job-related duties as directed.
