When assigned to the Hurst Recreation Center: Interacts with guests of all ages and monitors Recreation Center facilities, including fitness areas, classrooms, gymnasium, and open spaces. Monitors the Hurst Kidz drop-off area, including participant check-in/out, communication with guardians, and supervision of children. Sets up and breaks down gymnasium and classroom spaces as needed. Provides special event and off-site marketing support as required. When assigned to the Hurst Tennis & Pickleball Center: Interacts with guests and monitors the building and courts, including court preparation after inclement weather, emptying trash receptacles, and maintaining general facility cleanliness. Sets up and maintains guest amenities such as ball machines, radar equipment, and water coolers. When assigned to the Hurst Senior Activities Center: Interacts with members 55 & over and monitors all Senior Activities Center activities, including all fitness areas, classrooms, café, and open spaces. Assist with classroom set-up as needed. Assist with specialty activities such as dances, karaoke, BINGO, etc.

  • Responsible for positive guest interactions with all members, guests, and staff at the Hurst Recreation, Tennis & Pickleball, or Senior Activities Centers.
  • Communicates program, activity, membership, and event information clearly and accurately to guests.
  • Enforces facility guidelines and procedures and assists in resolving guest concerns or complaints.
  • Receives membership fees, daily use fees, room use, and class registration fees.
  • Admits members and guests into the assigned building per the “Membership Policy”; checks proof of membership of each person seeking to use the facility; accepts fees and generates receipt; obtains the signature of each person using the facility and records fee paid, if any.
  • Performs opening and closing procedures as directed by the building supervisor. Maintains cleanliness of public areas, including locker rooms and restrooms, and completes hourly facility walkthroughs. Accurately documents incidents, accidents, deposits, and facility inspections and submits reports to the supervisor. Secures all cash receipts and the building at closing time.
  • Adheres to Hurst’s Code of Ideals and The Hurst Way. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support departmental operations.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required for this position, including all meetings and training.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others during daily work.
  • Knowledge of Recreation Software or ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, exercise good judgment, and take initiative.
  • Ability to provide prompt, courteous, and efficient guest service.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products and standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrates punctuality, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a public facing environment.
  • Ability to respond to and direct guests and staff during both routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in customer service, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
  • Comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stoop while assisting with programs or events.
  • Most work is performed indoors; when outdoors, subject to extreme heat, cold, and sun.
  • Work may be subject to time pressures, emergencies, and frequent changes to tasks, working closely with others as part of a team, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and dealing with difficult persons.
  • Possesses strong customer service skills and consistently applies the City of Hurst’s Code of Ideals in interactions with staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods to operate standard office equipment, including computer keyboard, telephone, calculator, copier, and printer.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Actively in high school, or high school graduate, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • CPR and AED certified or able to obtain within 30 days.
  • Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Previous customer service experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a community recreation setting is preferred.
