About The Position

The Guest Services Associate at the Hunter Museum of American Art plays a crucial role in providing a high-quality and engaging experience for all museum guests, gift shop customers, and teammates. This position is part-time and requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends as needed. The associate is responsible for accurately accounting for all museum admissions, guest service desk membership payments, and gift shop sales. The role emphasizes customer service, organization, and efficiency, ensuring that guests are attended to appropriately while maintaining accurate records of member visitation data and guest admission payments. In this position, the Guest Services Associate will perform daily operations at the guest service desk, adhering to admission and cash handling procedures, and balancing the cash drawer before and after each shift. Greeting and orienting visitors, including self-guided groups, is a key responsibility. The associate will also participate in regular training to maintain a working knowledge of the exhibitions and programs offered by the museum. Balancing the welfare of the museum with the expectations of visitors is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of guests to ensure a positive museum experience. The associate will also be tasked with resolving visitor concerns and complaints and encouraging guest feedback through surveys. Additionally, the Guest Services Associate will work closely with the facility department to ensure that public spaces such as the lobby, coat room, gift shop, restrooms, and entry doors are neat, clean, and inviting. The role includes assisting in the everyday operations of the museum gift shop, which encompasses merchandising, pricing, stocking, receiving, ordering, and managing store displays and consignment products, all while focusing on customer service. The associate will also assist with special store promotions, including trunk shows, book signings, holiday promotions, and special group promotions. Participation in staff meetings and walk-throughs, as well as providing administrative support as needed, is also part of the job.
