About The Position

The Kensington Hotel is hiring a full-time Guest Service Agent to work our evening shift. Typical hours are 3:00pm - 11:00pm. The role involves greeting customers immediately with a friendly and sincere welcome, using a positive and clear speaking voice, listening to and understanding requests, and responding with appropriate action. Responsibilities include completing the registration process by inputting and retrieving information from the computer, confirming pertinent information, promoting sales initiatives, and making appropriate selections of rooms based on guest needs. The Guest Service Agent will also provide welcome folders containing room keys, certificates, and coupons as appropriate. Other duties include verifying/swiping credit cards for authorization, handling cash, making change, and balancing an assigned house bank. The agent will accept and record vouchers, travelers checks, and other forms of payment, promptly answer the telephone, input messages into the computer, retrieve messages, and communicate with guests. Closing guest accounts at check-out and ascertaining satisfaction is also part of the role, along with fielding guest complaints, conducting research, developing effective solutions, and negotiating results. The agent must remain calm and alert during emergency situations and heavy hotel activity and perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English.
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Must be willing to 'pitch-in' and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Ability to use a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error.
  • Ability to effectively deal with customers, with high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout front office and continuously perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
  • Ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
