About The Position

The Guest Safety Security Officer Lead (GSOL) is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass. This role safeguards company assets, proactively supports guest and team member safety, and reinforces a cohesive culture of awareness, professionalism, hospitality, and adaptability. The Guest Safety/Security Officer Lead performs all of the work outlined in the Guest Safety and Security Officer job description, and in addition works with and leads Guest Safety/Security Officers on a daily basis. The GSOL leads incident response and also responds to calls for service, staffs assigned security posts, patrols company property, and completes tasks and other duties assigned by department leadership. The Guest Safety Officer Lead will assist in training current and new GSOs regarding Standard Operating Procedures and will assist in implementing application and training of new and existing SOPs. The Lead protects company assets through proactive patrols and engaging in constant information sharing between the Security Operations Center and GSOs. The GSO Lead acts as a liaison between GSOs, department leadership as well as local law enforcement and other emergency services.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear, detailed and accurately written reports in a timely manner.
  • Ability to operate two-way radios and other communication equipment.
  • Ability to learn and operate video surveillance system equipment.
  • Ability to learn and operate multi line telephone systems under busy or stressful situations while multi-tasking.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED/ certification or ability/willingness to obtain certification.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other programs.
  • Be able to learn and understand the company’s physical access control and security platform.
  • Use verbal strategies to deescalate conflict and tension with the goal of restoring order in challenging situations.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds with the ability to perform physical activities inherent to security patrol duties, such as bending, walking, running, standing, and rapidly ascending or descending stairs and/or ladders as needed.
  • Possess experience with internal and external loss prevention programs.
  • Strong and demonstrated ability to train others.
  • Broad knowledge of the security industry, including security technology and its application.
  • Possess the ability to interface with public safety officials on issues of mutual interest.
  • The GSOL must possess, provide and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively assist Guest Safety and Security team members and leadership with the department’s daily operations at the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass.
  • Instill our company values in department team members by setting the example and engaging in positive messaging.
  • Ensure the presence, appearance and professionalism of the assigned team members on each shift.
  • Investigate and properly record/document internal and external accidents/injuries.
  • Conduct daily rounds/patrols to ensure the good order and safety of company property, guests, and team members.
  • Oversee lost and found records to ensure accuracy and proper handling.
  • Assist in training security officers in every facet of daily safety/security operations which may include, but are not limited to, the following: Proactive observation of daily activities and guest service; Proficient use of the access control program; Fire alarm panel management; Fire alarm procedures; Evacuation procedures; Theft prevention procedures; Accident investigation; Incident investigation; Report writing; Photography.
  • Assist with and train for disaster preparedness e.g., earthquakes, fires and other emergencies.
  • Assist leadership with security system vendors who provide service for our video system, door access system, fire alarm panels, fire suppression hoods and fire extinguishers.
  • Ensure that all security technology/equipment is properly used and maintained on a weekly basis. Review video and access records, manage proper video storage and ensure that all systems are at 100% capability. Promptly report any problems associated with these systems as well as problems with any other company infrastructure.
  • Manage/maintain inventory of departmental supplies.
  • Support coordinated safety operations for events, shared campus activities, and overlapping guest flow.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times and work to instill this demeanor in all GSOs.
  • The GSOL must be able to work within a team atmosphere. This includes working cooperatively with leadership from all other company departments and any others who are direct consumers of security services.
  • Maintain good relations with Seattle Center Security (Emergency Services Unit), the Seattle Police and Fire Departments, the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), the Secret Service and the Diplomatic Security Service. This includes working cooperatively on issues of mutual concern as well as actively cooperating with any ongoing investigation or visit of any dignitary.
  • Properly investigate any potential criminal activity in conjunction with the Seattle Police Department (or other law enforcement).
  • Understand and enforce OSHA/WISHA regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Provide assistance to other employees to enhance customer service or respond in the event of an emergency.
  • Work with leadership to ensure that all GSOs are certified in First Aid, CPR, AEDs and other training requirements as determined by leadership.
  • Must be reachable at all times by radio while on duty.
  • Know all locations of water shut offs and how to operate them. Prepare visual aids and directions so that all members of the safety/security team can be trained in their location and operation.
  • Upon request, accompany terminated team members to collect their belongings, retrieve company property and, if necessary, escort them from the property.
  • Create/manage the daily officer rotation list.
