In support of the Gas Power Business, this controls engineering position in the Control Systems Technology team is responsible for providing technical guidance to a team which develops advanced gas turbine controls solutions from requirements gathering through field validation. Job Description The Gas Turbine Controls Architect is a senior engineer that is responsible for providing technical leadership to a Fleet Gas Turbine team responsible for requirements management, design, development, simulation verification, field validation, and documentation related to advanced gas turbine controls system development in support of the Gas Power Business. The Gas Turbine Controls Development Architect will be challenged to work with GT systems and component Gas Turbine Engineering teams to prioritize, define, and deliver controls features as part of standard software library releases to be used by the controls project execution team to fulfill on advanced gas turbine projects. In addition, the Gas Turbine Controls Architect will: Mitigate Technical Risk within the team by driving adoption and execution of the Controls Development and Design Review Process Lead internal peer reviews of “at risk” new development to flush out conflicting/incomplete requirements, ensure software coding standards and harmonization across GT B/E/F-class frames are followed, and review validation results to prepare the team for formal design reviews. Collaborate with GT Systems and design engineers of various disciplines to surface and drive gas turbine control system and accessories equipment requirements. Collaborate with and maintain close, responsive, and productive working relationships with the Controls standards and project execution teams. Work with Agile Release Team leadership to plan quarterly PI Milestone and Feature commitments. Actively provide Technical Mentorship to the Agile scrum team members, providing guidance and removing roadblocks Partner with CTHs and other Architects to coordinate consistent SW solutions across all GT frames. Develop and apply advanced control technologies to gas turbine applications Drive ownership and incorporate lessons learned from validation and field experience into software standards. Support controls project execution engineer from project launch through commissioning. Support timely resolution of ER/PAC case inquiries. Lead the controls response of complex cost & cycle requests for new project opportunities for both the new unit and services teams. Be an empowered program level decision maker. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions. Provide clear communication to the team and the business leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 8 years engineering experience
  • Extensive Controls experience
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% for controls field validation and customer meetings, as required
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as required
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • MS degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical or Computer)
  • Gas Turbine(GT) Controls preferred
  • 2+ years of Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework
  • Strong experience in power generation project execution, working with customers, project mgt. or EPCs
  • Experience on customer sites supporting controls commissioning, validation testing, or issue resolution
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading a diverse, cross-functional, global team
  • Power plant field engineering experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of software on large complex projects, integrating with Systems, Performance, Combustion, and Requisition Management to drive controls solutions on time with quality.
  • Mitigate Technical Risk within the team by driving adoption and execution of the Controls Development and Design Review Process
  • Lead internal peer reviews of “at risk” new development to flush out conflicting/incomplete requirements, ensure software coding standards and harmonization across GT frames are followed, and review validation results to prepare the team for formal design reviews.
  • Lead the controls response of complex cost & cycle requests for new project opportunities for both the new unit and services teams.
  • Provide technical guidance to our global software teams on complex control algorithms and work to drive a rigorous quality focused mindset.
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for product control and control system technology needs.
  • Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design and control systems with desired behaviors. Includes operability, setting of boundaries, cycle optimization, control logic, control related software, sensors, hardware and software algorithms, and feedback to control the performance of devices, subsystems and systems.
  • Develop and apply advanced control technologies to gas turbine applications
  • Collaborate with design engineers of various disciplines to surface control system requirements and drive equipment requirements for controllability
  • Implement control algorithms in GE Mark™ VI and Mark VIe Control Systems.
  • Write, test, and develop requirements for gas turbine application code.
  • Support software acceptance tests with customers
  • Support field tests for technology proofs-of-concept and final validation of control system solutions
  • Drives best practices across Controls fulfillment teams.
  • Uses technical experience and analytical thinking.
  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
