About The Position

The position involves providing direct care and assisting program staff in implementing educational activities for pre-kindergarten children, promoting their growth and development in various areas. The role includes planning and executing daily programming, maintaining a safe environment, and conducting assessments of children's progress.

Requirements

  • Associates in Early Childhood/Child Development preferred.
  • Child development associate credential (CDA) or currently enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within one year.
  • Currently enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood/Child Development with 12 credit hours completed.
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with children in a caring, responsive, and nurturing manner.
  • Ability to intervene with children’s behaviors in a non-punitive and supportive manner.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with parents/caregivers.
  • Ability to be self-directed in the completion of tasks.
  • Ability to work as a positive and productive member of a team.
  • Basic understanding of child development and appropriate interventions.
  • Commitment to the welfare of the families served and to the delivery of quality services.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing daily programming under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Participate in the development of the daily lesson plan.
  • Assist individual children in need of special attention and care.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inviting, and accepting environment for young children and their parents.
  • Direct specific classroom activities, including large and small groups, as assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist in planning and preparing materials for daily activities.
  • Assist with daily clean up and care of the classroom including daily custodial needs.
  • Assist in the daily on-going assessment of children through anecdotal notes and data entry.
  • Maintain records as required (attendance, meal counts, daily summary logs, etc.).
  • Participate in team meetings and training when appropriate.
  • Address children, parents, and staff with respect and by name.
  • Assist in the process of receiving children and preparing them for dismissal.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with food/kitchen staff.
  • Get necessary head counts to help distribute food effectively.
  • Keep the classroom stocked with materials needed for food preparation and distribution.
  • Distribute food in a timely manner to facilitate family style meal service.
  • Work with the Nutrition Manager to ensure the nutritional needs of all children are met.
  • Perform special assignments as directed by the supervisor.
  • Comply with all licensing regulations and performance standards.
  • Assist program Lead Teacher in completing developmental screenings of children.
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of family service plans.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff.
  • Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.
