About The Position

This position is Limited Tenure. Limited Tenure (LT) means that if you are offered the position and accept it: You will be categorized as a regular employee during this tenure, but employment will be terminated at the established end date. You committed to stay in this position until the end of the tenure (approximately 24 months from date of hire) before you become eligible to transfer to a new position. After the completion of the limited tenure assignment, it is your responsibility to secure another role within Mayo through the job vacancy process or employment will be ended upon the completion of the limited tenure assignment. In this role employees will have direct patient contact. The primary function is to transport patients, visitors and patient related items throughout the Mayo Clinic campus in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to push/pull patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds.
  • Proficiency in the safe operation of multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment.
  • Full use of hands and ability to perform repetitive wrist and elbow movements.
  • Ability to perform repetitive foot motions and trunk rotate/twist/reach actions.
  • Knowledge with the use of a smartphone.
  • Ability to function independently and as a team member with minimal supervision.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Previous patient transport experience.
  • Familiarity with medical isolation precautions and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients, visitors, and patient-related items throughout the Mayo Clinic campus.
  • Interact frequently with nurses, radiology techs, desk staff, door attendants, and others.
  • Receive primary work assignments via an iPhone and pager.
  • Function independently and as a team member with minimal supervision.
  • Manage transport requests via computers and/or working with dispatch staff via telephone.
  • Stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift.
  • Push/pull patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment.
  • Disinfect equipment after each patient use and request maintenance as needed.
  • Perform wheelchair roundups to General Service storage locations or designated floors.
  • Transport patients who require the use of oxygen, intravenous pumps, wound vacs, and/or other special equipment.
  • Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs/stretchers.
  • Perform correct patient identification by utilizing two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
  • Confirm with a nurse that the patient has a minimum of 30 minutes of oxygen before transportation.
  • Use a slider board and slider sheet to transfer patients to/from beds and/or stretchers with assistance.
  • Confirm with staff and adhere to medical isolation precautions and protocols.
  • Provide detailed verbal communication to appropriate staff during the drop off and pick up of patients.
  • Attend meetings outside of normal work schedule and/or assist in the training of new employees.
