About the position

The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports and oversees the Oregon Youth Challenge Program. You are NOT required to be in the Oregon National Guard to be considered for this position. The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for 2 Group Life Coordinator 2. These are full-time permanent state positions located within The Oregon Youth Challenge Program in Bend, Oregon. This recruitment will be open continuously until both positions have been filled. The first candidate list will be pulled on March 26, and may close any time after this date. This position is classified as a Group Life Coordinator 2; however, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications of the Group Life Coordinator 1 to apply. We may underfill the position until the selected candidate fulfills the minimum qualifications for the Group Life Coordinator 2 Classification. Underfill will not exceed one (1) year from date of hire. If you are a night owl and like to work night shift this is the job for you. This position has a schedule 10:00pm - 6:00am. This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees' (AFSCME) union. This position performs the following major duties: Responsible for the care, control, safety and security of youth in a 24/7 facility, supervise youth with emphasis on safety, personal growth, teamwork and the program's eight core components, promote positive youth development, monitor and report the behavior of cadets, work effectively with youth who may have challenges, plan and lead daily physical fitness activities, and provide classroom instruction on various topics related to program standards and character development.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the care, control, safety and security of youth in a 24/7 facility.
  • Supervise youth with emphasis on safety, personal growth, teamwork and the program's eight core components.
  • Promote positive youth development by establishing healthy professional relationships.
  • Monitor and report the behavior of cadets during daily activities.
  • Work effectively with youth who may have social, economic, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Assist youth in developing short- and long-term goals.
  • Plan, lead and participate in daily physical fitness activities.
  • Provide classroom instruction on a variety of topics related to program standards and character development.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or other proof of education at the same or higher level.
  • 1 year experience observing, evaluating, developing, or understanding of human performance, relations and interactions, or a Certificate or Associate degree in a related field.
  • 1 year of prior military experience, law enforcement or corrections experience.
  • Must be able to pass a physical fitness standard in accordance with program requirements.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Pass a fingerprint-based criminal background and abuse check.
  • Must obtain and maintain a CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 120 days of hire.
