About The Position

Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA) is seeking a Group Leader to support youth programming at our Cornerstone site. The Group Leader plays a key role in supervising participants, facilitating activities, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment during program hours. This includes assisting with homework, leading recreational and enrichment activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, responsible, and enjoys working with children.

Requirements

Fluency in both English and Spanish (verbal and written) required
Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or related fields is a plus.
Experience working with children in a school, camp, or community-based setting.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to manage a group and maintain a positive learning environment.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must meet organization clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

Communicate effectively with participants, families, and staff
Supervise and engage a group of students during afterschool hours.
Lead structured activities, including arts, sports, STEM, and social-emotional learning.
Assist students with homework and provide academic support as needed.
Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Act as a positive role model, encouraging respect, teamwork, and personal growth.
Ensure program rules and policies are followed at all times.
Support the program coordinator in planning and implementing activities.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
