About The Position

A Group Leader at MTS Spark After-School Program is responsible for creating a safe, structured, and engaging environment where students can learn, grow, and participate in meaningful after-school activities. This role involves supervising and ensuring the safety of assigned students, facilitating daily structured activities such as homework time, group activities, and recreational/athletic programming. The Group Leader is expected to maintain student engagement, reinforce positive behavior, track attendance, and assist with program events and daily setup/cleanup. Additionally, the role includes promoting teamwork and social-emotional development, participating in outdoor activities, assisting with monthly themed programming, and supporting student recruitment. Operational responsibilities include preparing and distributing snacks and materials, maintaining program equipment and spaces, following opening/closing procedures, and reporting incidents or supply needs to a supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to manage and supervise groups of up to 10-12 students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic understanding of youth development and behavior management
  • Ability to plan and facilitate structured activities (academic, recreational, or creative)
  • Ability to follow schedules and program routines (3 PM - 6 PM)
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Availability during program hours: Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM -6:00 PM
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality required
  • Must pass background check and fingerprinting
  • Ability to comply with Burlington County and agency policies
  • Completion of any required trainings and onboarding requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or related field preferred
  • Experience working with youth (ages 8-18) in an after-school, school, or community setting preferred
  • Experience leading group activities, sports, or enrichment programs strongly preferred
  • Energetic, positive, and engaging personality
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Strong role model for youth
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of all assigned students at all times
  • Facilitate daily structured activities, including: Homework time, Group Activities, Recreational/athletic programming
  • Maintain student engagement and participation
  • Reinforce program expectations and positive behavior
  • Track and maintain daily attendance and sign-in sheets
  • Assist with program events (e.g., Bingo nights, contests, activities)
  • Support program setup and cleanup daily
  • Encourage academic completion before activities
  • Promote teamwork, leadership, and social-emotional development
  • Participate in outdoor activities (weather permitting)
  • Assist with monthly themed programming
  • Support student recruitment and community engagement efforts
  • Prepare and distribute snacks and materials
  • Maintain and clean program equipment and activity spaces
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, including securing the facility
  • Report incidents, concerns, or supply needs to supervisor
