About The Position

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Group Instructor is responsible for the overall operation, continued development and implementation of programs in the branch, Enrichment department. The position is responsible for, communicating with parents, establishing procedures, and ensuring the program reflects the YMCA’s commitment to child safety.

Requirements

• Must have knowledge of sports and recreational games.
• Must have appropriate past experience working with children.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
• Ability to demonstrate problem-solving and independent judgment.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Conducts and guide the class participants to the successful completion of the activity.
• Arrives at the gym properly dressed prior to class to open the gym and begin in set up of class.
• Puts all equipment away and maintains the inventory in an orderly fashion.
• Responsible for the well-being and safety of all participants in the class.
• Stands where he/she can see all participants and reports any injuries or disciplinary problems to the director.
• Completes accident reports as necessary.
• Makes necessary announcements to parents and hands out literature regarding the sports program.
• Emphasizes safety, body awareness, self-confidence, and social development in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
• Knows where all children are at all times.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members and helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
• Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures and responds to emergency situations.
• Records accurate class attendance.
