About The Position

This is a full time, awake overnight position, is Red Oak, Ia. The hours are Sunday-Tuesday and every other Saturday 8pm-6am. This position is eligible for a hire on bonus. The Group Home Supported Community Living Specialist (SCLS) is directly responsible to the Team Leader to which they are assigned and the Director of Residential Services.

Requirements

  • Must not have or be a carrier of serious infectious or communicable diseases.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Prefer high school diploma or GED.
  • Prefer previous experience working with individuals with mental health issues.
  • Prefer experience in teaching skills of cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.
  • Exercise sound judgment in immediate decision-making situations.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Iowa Chauffeur’s license.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, TB Tine, and drug screenings.
  • Complete DIA approved med-management class.
  • Willingness to work with individuals who have behavioral disorders.
  • Willingness to clean biological fluids/waste.
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Must not have been legally convicted of any type of assault, abuse, or bodily injury.
  • Participate in agency investigations and inspections as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Teach, train, and assist individuals with mental health issues in developing skills for independence in daily living activities.
  • Coordinate health and medical needs.
  • Train individuals to take care of their own health and medical needs.
  • Develop and utilize coping skills to improve symptoms of mental illness.
  • Assist individuals in becoming independent in accessing community services.
  • Assist in advocacy procedures to ensure rights and meet needs, interests, and choices.
  • Prepare individualized diet plans to meet nutritional needs.
  • Write Individualized Intervention Plans for each individual.
  • Provide emergency/safety skills training.
  • Provide training in personal business and property management.
  • Provide training in budgeting.
  • Provide transportation for appointments and community activities.
  • Orient new individuals in their home and assess their skills.
  • Supervise individual goals and complete data collection.
  • Supervise individual finances for budgeting guidance.
  • Provide a supportive and therapeutic atmosphere.
  • Supervise individual care and use of personal property.
  • Train new staff on duties and agency policies.
  • Follow the assigned work schedule.
  • Never leave individuals receiving twenty-four-hour care unsupervised.
  • Complete all records and documentation as per established procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and health standards in the residence.
  • Keep informed of programming and administrative changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of written and verbal information.
  • Document behaviors and provide information for intervention plans.
  • Monitor and document on individual’s physician ordered diet.
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities such as meal preparation, laundry, and bathing.
  • Ensure clients are safe from environmental hazards.
