About The Position

This is a full time position in Essex, Ia. The hours are Wednesday-Friday 3pm-11pm and every other weekend 9am-11pm. The Supported Community Living Specialist (SCLS) is directly responsible to the Team Leader to which they are assigned and the Director of Residential Services. This is a part-time/full-time, Para-professional level position.

Requirements

  • Must not have or be a carrier of serious infectious or communicable diseases.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prefer previous experience in teaching cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene skills.
  • Exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Iowa Chauffeur’s license.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, TB Tine, and drug screenings.
  • Complete a 10-hour med-management class.
  • Willingness to work with individuals with behavioral disorders.
  • Willingness to clean biological fluids/waste.
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Must not have been legally convicted of assault, abuse, or bodily injury.

Responsibilities

  • Teach, train, and assist individuals in developing skills for independence in daily living activities.
  • Coordinate health and medical needs.
  • Train individuals to manage their own health and medical needs.
  • Develop or maintain skills for better community participation.
  • Assist individuals in accessing community services.
  • Facilitate participation in at least one community activity each week.
  • Assist individuals in advocacy procedures to ensure their rights and needs are met.
  • Prepare individualized diet plans as needed.
  • Write Individualized Intervention Plans for each individual served.
  • Provide emergency/safety skills training.
  • Train individuals in managing personal business and property.
  • Provide training in budgeting.
  • Provide transportation for appointments and activities.
  • Assist individuals with daily living skills.
  • Orient new individuals in their home and assess their skills.
  • Supervise individual goals and complete data collection.
  • Supervise individual finances and provide budgeting guidance.
  • Provide a supportive and therapeutic atmosphere.
  • Supervise care and use of personal property.
  • Train new staff on duties and agency policies.
  • Follow the assigned work schedule.
  • Ensure individuals receiving care are never left unsupervised.
  • Complete all records and documentation as per procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and health standards in the residence.
  • Stay informed of programming and administrative changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of written and verbal information.
  • Document behaviors and provide information for intervention plans.
  • Monitor and document physician-ordered diets.
  • Ensure clients are safe from environmental hazards.
