About The Position

Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Founded by Walter and Marquerite Matheny in 1951, the Matheny of today is a pioneer in providing fully integrated, personalized care and education that respects each person's dignity and encourages their highest potential. At Matheny, we focus on abilities in a warm and nurturing environment. Our fully-accredited non-profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes seven licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative communication systems, the artists have complete freedom to explore a world that is defined only by their unlimited creativity and unique self-expression. Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity available for a Full Time Assistant Manager for our group homes located in Somerset County. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday 3pm-11pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with developmentally disabled population required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a community residence required.
  • Must possess strong organization, time management and communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in completing and posting 2-week staff schedules.
  • Assist residents in all activities of daily living while promoting independence when appropriate.
  • Accompany residents on doctor appointments and ensure proper follow-up.
  • Assist in planning recreation and leisure time activities, including community outings.
  • Assist with preparing residents dinner and lunch selection for the following day.
  • Ensures appropriate supply levels exist at each home and will notify managers when there are shortages.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings, and orientation of new staff.
  • Assist Director with monthly reports, supervision, and questions or concerns.
  • Monitor and complete relevant in house documentation in Matheny's Electronic Documentation System.
  • Review critical care communication log book each shift.
  • Oversee and assist in completion of shift duties to facilitate good relations between staff.
  • Be available for special residence coverage during holidays, emergencies or when relief coverage cannot.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
