About The Position

The Group Fitness Instructor - Pilates is responsible for instructing group fitness classes in a safe, effective, and enjoyable manner. The instructor will ensure that guests have a positive experience and that they are properly scanned for class attendance. The position is part-time and non-exempt, with hours varying based on session dates and times. The instructor will work at the Community Recreation Center's Fitness Center and report to the Wellness Manager/Wellness Membership Manager.

Requirements

  • Certification through ACE, AFAA, NASM, or other accredited certification body.
  • Advanced knowledge of safe exercise principles and practices.
  • Ability to maintain a favorable public image.
  • Physical ability and endurance to perform the job.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Maintain a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.
  • CPR/AED certification or ability to earn within 60 days.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct group fitness classes to guests in a safe, effective, and fun manner.
  • Ensure guests have an enjoyable experience and have been scanned for class.
  • Arrive at least 10 minutes early to set up the classroom and greet participants.
  • Create and maintain motivating, fun, effective, and safe workouts in a group setting.
  • Attend and participate in continuous education courses and seminars.
  • Ensure all participants have been scanned and paid to enter class.
  • Teach various levels and styles of fitness instruction.
  • Find coverage and inform the Wellness Manager of schedule changes when unable to teach.
  • Maintain a minimum of eight participants in each class.
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies.
  • Complete appropriate forms and reports for individual students.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations as indicated in the manual.
  • Maintain readiness to handle emergency situations.
  • Have knowledge of safety, rescue, and first aid equipment.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
