About The Position

Responsible for planning and conducting effective and enjoyable aquatic fitness classes in a variety of formats to include special population classes such as active older adults. Sets appropriate and safe structure for Aqua Fitness classes; follows an established curriculum; ensures participants have a quality fitness experience. Keeps class attendance and monitors class participants. Teaches classes as scheduled or follows substitution policy.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of fitness, health, and wellness principles and how to apply them in teaching fitness classes.
  • Must be aware of physical modifications for individuals of all ages/abilities.
  • Must be able to plan, develop, and implement a class curriculum as established by certification.
  • Must be dependable, reliable and exhibit exceptional leadership skills and qualities.
  • Requires bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, and climbing to perform tasks normally associated with this position.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a certified Aqua Fitness/Group Exercise Instructor certification by a nationally recognized organization such as AAAI, ACE, AEA, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, Fit Tour, or AFPA.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of three months’ experience in teaching Aqua Fitness classes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and instructs aquatic fitness classes in conjunction with aquatic certification guidelines.
  • Has the ability to demonstrate exercise modifications for all fitness levels.
  • Sets appropriate and safe structures for aquatic fitness classes.
  • Ensures participants have a quality fitness experience while following HRCA program policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the safety of participants by implementing and monitoring procedures to meet safety guidelines/expectations.
  • Completes incident reports as required.
  • Takes accurate class attendance following the HRCA Fitness guidelines.
  • Inform the Fitness Team Leader/Coordinator of all incidents, complaints, and unfavorable situations immediately.
  • Takes responsibility for the safe and effective use of program equipment.
  • Reports any equipment concerns and identifies supply needs.
  • Sets up and takes down equipment as needed.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled staff meetings.
  • Understands the procedure for finding subs for scheduled classes when needed.
  • Implements a customer service model that enhances positive communication and support for all customers, internal and external.
  • Presents a positive approach to working with other HRCA staff members.
  • Provides information to clarify the intent and structure of fitness classes.
  • Resolves problems and concerns as able.
  • Works positively to share workspaces and equipment.
