About The Position

The Group Fitness Coordinator supports the daily administration, organization, and delivery of the university’s Group Fitness program. This position assists with class scheduling, registration management, student staff supervision, and participant communication. The coordinator ensures a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants while upholding departmental policies and supporting RecSports’ mission of student development, community building, and quality programming. The role works collaboratively with professional staff, student employees, and campus partners to provide consistent and high-quality recreational experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with students and student groups in a university campus recreation program or 2 years working in related recreation program (i.e., Parks & Rec).
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies, prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, work with limited supervision, supervise, and delegate work to student staff, exercise good judgment, handle different situations with confidence and leadership, and be flexible
  • Knowledge of supervising and programming recreation facilities
  • Ability to use PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft office suite
  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • One (1) year of professional experience working with students in a campus recreation program or similar organization of comparable size.
  • Experience with When-to-Work and InnoSoft Fusion.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily operations of the Group Fitness Program.
  • Plan fitness special events such as fitness challenges, community runs/walks, and awareness campaigns to foster campus-wide health engagement and promote department visibility.
  • Oversee program registration, participation, risk management and promotion.
  • Maintain accurate program statistics, participant data, and participate in department assessment projects.
  • Recruit, hire, and train student staff while providing direct supervision, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings, trainings sessions, and performance evaluations to maintain high standards of service and foster a positive work culture.
  • Input, check and approve student payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Implement and enforce safety policies, procedures, and best practices to minimize risk and promote participant safety; conduct regular safety audits and equipment inspections.
