About The Position

Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Required certifications: CPR, AED
  • Certification in areas of expertise group exercise
  • At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
  • Ability to conduct classes and activities.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Responsible for walking around and making adjustments and correcting form during class.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and informing Director of any breakage or items needing replacement
  • Report to work 5 minutes prior to class to prepare for class and ensure proper set up and tear down of class.
  • Responsible for covering their class. Any substitutes should be called into their Director/coordinator.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
