About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor functions under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Aquatics Supervisor. Responsible for designing the components, choreography, and music (if applicable) of the assigned land and/or aquatic group exercise class. Will lead participants through a safe and effective group exercise class at the appropriate and established class style and intensity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma GED or currently enrolled in high school Required
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
  • Primary Group Fitness Certification through a nationally recognized or accredited certifying agency (including: ACE, AFAA, NETA, NESTA, NAFTA, ACSM, NASM, AEA, USWFA, ISSA, MOSSA, Schwinn, Yoga Alliance, Pilates Alliance, NSCA, or other similar nationally recognized certification)
  • Display strong motivation for community outreach and working with people.
  • Displays excellent organizational, communication, and motivational skills.
  • Displays excellent health and wellness lifestyle.
  • Exercise independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative when performing roles

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year Experience but will train under leadership supervision. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead land and/or aquatic group exercise classes
  • Understand contraindicated exercises providing a safe and effective approach to exercise
  • Teach within standard guidelines of specialty certifications
  • Maintain industry certification in good standing and meet continuing education requirements
  • Provides class with exercise movements that are physiologically safe and effective and are of the appropriate intensity for the target audience and established class style
  • Displays enthusiasm and strives to motivate participants to work out within their individual exercise prescriptions
  • Uses a variety of exercise movements during classes to provide a complete workout and maintain class interest
  • Utilizes teaching techniques effectively including verbal and visual cueing/demonstrations 70% Provides support for daily facility maintenance and operations
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of group exercise rooms, pool areas, equipment, and other areas of the facility as assigned
  • Participates in team meetings
  • Maintains consistent and appropriate communication with leadership staff, team members, and class participants
  • Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs
  • Demonstrate accountability to schedule by avoiding missed classes and seek substitute instructors in advance
  • The ability to be flexible and accommodating as it relates to center hours and work schedules
  • Must meet all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of emergency and safety procedures 30%
