About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor functions under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Aquatics Supervisor. Responsible for designing the components, choreography, and music (if applicable) of the assigned land and/or aquatic group exercise class. Will lead participants through a safe and effective group exercise class at the appropriate and established class style and intensity.

Requirements

High school diploma GED or currently enrolled in high school Required
Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
Primary Group Fitness Certification through a nationally recognized or accredited certifying agency (including: ACE, AFAA, NETA, NESTA, NAFTA, ACSM, NASM, AEA, USWFA, ISSA, MOSSA, Schwinn, Yoga Alliance, Pilates Alliance, NSCA, or other similar nationally recognized certification)
Display strong motivation for community outreach and working with people.
Displays excellent organizational, communication, and motivational skills.
Displays excellent health and wellness lifestyle.
Exercise independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative when performing roles

Nice To Haves

Minimum 1 year Experience but will train under leadership supervision. Preferred

Responsibilities

Lead land and/or aquatic group exercise classes
Understand contraindicated exercises providing a safe and effective approach to exercise
Teach within standard guidelines of specialty certifications
Maintain industry certification in good standing and meet continuing education requirements
Provides class with exercise movements that are physiologically safe and effective and are of the appropriate intensity for the target audience and established class style
Displays enthusiasm and strives to motivate participants to work out within their individual exercise prescriptions
Uses a variety of exercise movements during classes to provide a complete workout and maintain class interest
Utilizes teaching techniques effectively including verbal and visual cueing/demonstrations 70% Provides support for daily facility maintenance and operations
Maintains cleanliness and safety of group exercise rooms, pool areas, equipment, and other areas of the facility as assigned
Participates in team meetings
Maintains consistent and appropriate communication with leadership staff, team members, and class participants
Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs
Demonstrate accountability to schedule by avoiding missed classes and seek substitute instructors in advance
The ability to be flexible and accommodating as it relates to center hours and work schedules
Must meet all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties
Demonstrate complete knowledge of emergency and safety procedures 30%
