About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor teaches group exercise in a variety of styles. Plans and leads fitness classes in a variety of levels and styles, including cardio, mind-body, and strength-based group exercise classes. Conducts fitness classes in a fun, safe, and effective manner that meet University Recreation guidelines at the direction of the Fitness Programs Coordinator. Provides an encouraging and motivating environment while helping participants to achieve their fitness goals. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace.

Requirements

  • Group exercise instructor or specialist certification from a nationally recognized certifying organization or NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) accredited fitness certification; OR completion of the Group Exercise Instructor Preparation Course at the University of Alabama Student Recreation Center.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain CPR certification within six (6) weeks of employment.
  • Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.
  • Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and information obtained from social media and other internet sources. A prior conviction reported as a result of the background investigation DOES NOT automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching and leading Group Exercise Classes.
  • Nationally recognized group exercise certification, from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited certifying organization.
