The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members, in a group environment, through a prearranged format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance, while ensuring that the safety of the members is not compromised. The Group Exercise Instructor will also serve as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

  • Arrive at class location 10 to 15 minutes ahead of scheduled start time to interact with members and answer questions.
  • Introduce yourself and the format of the class.
  • Inquire if there are any 'first-timers' in the group and assess their fitness level privately.
  • Ensure all verbal instructions are clear and the atmosphere is conducive to learning and having fun.
  • Monitor participants to ensure correct form and offer variations of the routine.
  • Create a motivational and fun environment for all participants.
  • Remove all music and return microphone to proper place after class.
  • Ensure the room is in order for the next class.
  • Answer any questions/concerns participants may have.
  • Solicit feedback from participants about the class.
  • Prepare appropriate music for class and ensure all equipment is functioning correctly.
  • Make sure that class begins and ends promptly.
  • Find a qualified/approved substitute if unable to fulfill a scheduled class.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Prepare incident and/or witness reports as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards responsibilities, fellow employees, and members.
  • Promote Gold's Gym and GGX as much as possible.
  • At least six months teaching in a group exercise format.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise technique and group exercise principles.
  • Knowledge of basic physiology and body mechanics.
  • Performance of a variety of exercise routines.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
  • Group fitness certification by ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or specialized certifications such as Zumba, Strong, Les Mills, Silver Sneakers, etc.
