About The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor at the Waltham YMCA is responsible for leading group exercise classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels. The instructor will work under the Health and Wellness Director and alongside other Wellness staff to build community within classes and modify sessions to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs. The YMCA seeks a leader who can develop sound healthy habits among members through engaging leadership in classes. The position is part-time and offers a compensation range of $34.00 - $40.00 per hour.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in a Group Exercise setting.
• NCCA accredited certification in Group Exercise.
• Current certification required for specific group exercise formats (e.g., Yoga, Spin, Les Mills Body Pump and Body Combat).
• Experience in health and wellness programming and group instruction.
• Understanding of internal and external marketing/special events.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.

Nice To Haves

• Degree in Exercise Science or Physical Education preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes to provide high-quality experiences for members and guests.
• Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their health and well-being goals.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends through YUSA courses and external training.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members and helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
• Celebrates achievements of program participants related to personal goals and overall health.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records through online Group Exercise Management software.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures and responds to emergency situations.
• Resolves member issues professionally and in alignment with YMCA values.
