Group Exercise Instructors play a vital role in the Fitness and Wellness department at Drexel University's Recreation Center. They are responsible for teaching a variety of fitness classes tailored to different levels for Drexel students, staff, and community members. Classes may include popular formats such as BODYPUMP, Zumba, Yoga, Cycle, Pilates, and more. Instructors are expected to create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all participants, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and engaged in their fitness journey. Instructors must arrive early to prepare for classes, which includes setting up and cleaning equipment and music. They are tasked with providing excellent customer service and maintaining a friendly demeanor throughout the sessions. Responsibilities also include choreographing routines, counting, cueing, modifying exercises, correcting participants' form, and selecting appropriate music for the classes. Instructors must stay informed about and enforce facility and program policies, fostering relationships with participants to enhance their experience. Additionally, Group Exercise Instructors may assist with program events as needed and are required to attend meetings and training sessions. They must keep up with communications via email and group chat, responding promptly to inquiries and scheduling needs. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, making adaptability and teamwork essential qualities for success in this role.
